Fortifiber® Raises the Performance Bar for Self-Adhesive Waterproof Flashing with Introduction of FortiFlash® Butyl

FERNLEY, NV, April 19, 2010 - Delivering on its commitment to provide advanced solutions for protection against moisture intrusion, Fortifiber Building Systems Group today introduced its new premier self-adhesive waterproof flashing membrane — FortiFlash® Butyl.

The culmination of years of research and development, FortiFlash Butyl provides the ultimate combination of performance characteristics in a self-adhesive waterproof flashing: aggressive adhesion at extreme low and high temperatures; compatibility with most standard sealants, including EPDM and flexible vinyl; an ultra durable facer; self-sealing properties; resistance to mold and mildew; and a split release sheet for easy integration with weather-resistive barriers.

"It delivers everything you could possibly want in a self-adhesive flashing product and then some," noted Jim Rossner, Fortifiber's Vice President of Strategy and Marketing. "FortiFlash Butyl is designed to deliver under the most demanding conditions."

The Ultimate Self-Adhesive Waterproof Flashing Membrane
Manufactured using a propriety butyl compound, FortiFlash Butyl provides rock solid adhesion at temperatures well below those where other self-flashing products just won't stick — while maintaining its protective properties at temperatures in excess off 200°F. Reinforced by a heavy duty multi-layered polyethylene facer, the product can be easily worked around protrusions and into tight corners without delaminating or tearing, making it ideal for sealing around windows, doors and through-wall penetrations — as well as non-roofing horizontal conditions such as recessed windows, sill pans, pot shelves and parapets.

FortiFlash Butyl complies with the installation requirements of ASTM E-2112, Standard Practice for Installation of Exterior Windows, Doors, and Skylights, and exceeds industry standards for tensile strength, nail sealability, peel adhesion and resistance to mold growth.

The product is available in 4, 6, 9, and 12 inch widths by 75 foot long rolls.

Backed by the Industry's Most Comprehensive Warranty
FortiFlash Butyl is part of a complete, scientifically engineered, Moisture Control System, which includes weather-resistive barriers, flexible flashings and sealant. The system combines the latest material advances with sound building science principles to reliably manage external water related structural failures, such as mold and mildew. It is backed by the FortiShield® 10-Year Systems Warranty — the industry's most comprehensive 10-year warranty. When used as specified, as part of a complete system, FortiFlash Butyl provides added assurance that wall system installations will remain trouble-free for years to come.
